Summertime is coming to a close, which means for you parents at home: School’s back in session! Aside from the back to school shopping, you’ll want to think about coming up with a plan for keeping your kids’ immune system working hard as well as eliminating excess bacteria in your home. Read on to find all you need for keeping your kids clean as they head back to school!
The best way to ward off illness is by doing everything you can to keep your child’s immune system strong.
- Begin by setting a healthy sleep routine a week or two before school begins. Sleep is one of the most important things for growing children, so shut down the electronics at least an hour before bed and get your kids into a sleepytime routine.
- They should also be following a healthy diet. A healthy diet also means a hearty, wholesome breakfast! Regardless of how rushed the first few days (or weeks.. Or months!) are, breakfast should be a non-negotiable!
- Exercising goes hand-in-hand with nutrition. You don’t necessarily need to put your kids through a rigorous Crossfit style workout each day, but encourage them to spend time outside riding their bikes, playing with their friends, or practicing their favourite sports.
At School
There are many general practices that your children are hopefully already familiar with, but before they head back into a world with their peers you may want to remind them of a few things! Hand washing is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs and illness. They should always wash their hands after using the restroom and before and after meals. If they have to blow their nose in class, they should try to wash their hands after if possible. Sometimes classrooms have hand sanitizer, which is the next best option.
Other healthy habits to remind your kids of include covering their mouths when they sneeze or cough. Using a sleeve is best, but if they don’t have long sleeves they should use their hand and then wash or sanitize after. Remind your students to also avoid sharing cups or other utensils that students put in contact with their mouths.
At Home
To keep the germs from school out of your house, you’ll want safe and effective cleaning products. We can’t get enough of our Lemon Eucalyptus Multi-Purpose Cleaner. It is environmentally friendly, and 100% safe to use around your children. Not only can this cleaner cover virtually every surface (kitchen, bathroom, floors), but it leaves your space smelling like fresh citrus.
As the laundry continues to pile up, you’ll want a detergent that works just as hard yet is as gentle as you! Our suggestion? Our Natural Laundry Powder. It is perfect for sensitive skin, and only takes one tablespoon per load. You can also use our powder to make a liquid detergent as well by adding water and a few drops of essential oils.
While your kids may be out of the house all day, they’re also working up an appetite. As dishes pile up, you’ll want to be sure your sink is stocked with the best soap. We recommend our Rosemary & Lime Natural Dish Soap. Boasting all natural ingredients, our soap gets rid of leftovers while being gentle on your hands and the environment all while smelling delish.
Don’t forget to stock up on your bathroom soaps as well, to keep all of those little hands clean at home! Our Lavender Liquid Handsoap is a favorite, and is gentle yet effective on all skin types. With plant-based ingredients, this soap leaves your hands clean, soft, and sweet-smelling!
